we made it to DC for the Cherry Blossoms. this is something i have wanted to do for a very long time. i never thought i'd live within driving distance to DC. the blossoms were absolutely amazing & it was an amazing weekend. the weather SOARED into the 80's, it was Easter weekend, and there was nothin' but blue skies. there were TONS of people- probably due to a combination of the things i just listed- but it was worth battling the crowds. we actually headed to the Tidal Basin where the blossoms are on friday and missed the record setting crowd on saturday. it was cool down on the water and the trees provided amazing shade~ especially for our picnic. the camera just cannot do it justice..... hard to take it all in it was such a neat experience.
smelling blossoms...
~Arlington Cemetery~
WOW! what a place. last year we did not make it to Arlington and i was very excited to visit there this time. it was a sombering place and quite the experience to see these white headstones,in the most precise lines, as far as the eye can see. again, hard for the camera to do it justice and something EVERYONE should see with their own two eyes. the Tomb of the Unknown Solider just made me bawl. Nate and i talked about who this represents. these men and women who fought for our country yet had nobody on this soil who could account that they did not return. nobody waiting to hear from them, nobody sending them off, nobody that realized that they didn't come back. what an empty feeling. they must have felt so alone.no ties to any single person but ties to and respect for their country. to serve and ultimately give their lives.... and nobody could account for that lost life. what a well deserved tribute to them we were there for the 'Changing of the Guard'. Nate mentioned as we watched them...."seeing those men dressed as they are, acting the way they are, devoting themselves the way they do, You can't help but feel some serious pride for our country".
