MEET YOUR SISTER, ROWEN.....

emersyn loves to kiss him and rub her cheek on his face. she is very affectionate towards him.

6:30 am i call in to the hospital to check and make sure i can come in for my scheduled induction @ 7:30. after being on hold for 5 mins i knew that couldn't be good. as she said "we had a lot of women go into labor and come in last night." my first thought was 'OF COURSE you did!!!!!!!!' she tells me they will call before noon to let me know what is going on. ihold it together long enough to get off the phone and then i lose it. nate tries to console me with "it's not that bad. it will happen sooner or later". hmmm, not what i wanted to hear. i was so let down! at 7:30 they call me and tell me to come in at 8:30~ HOORAY! i think i almost did a cartwheel! nate and i leave ej with nate's mom and head in.  we get checked in, all hooked up, and meds running. i had tested strep B positive so i had to have two rounds of an antibiotic that took 4 hours to deliver. so they couldn't give me pitocin until i had the 2 rounds. around noon they give me the pitocin and around 2:30 they break my water and i get my epidural. my epidural was HEAVENLY! it hurt, i don't remember my last one hurting at all, but then again it didn't work AT ALL i would take that pain over feeling the entire labor! i was pretty much laughing from there on out. i could not believe how comfortable i was with the epidural. it felt heavenly! it felt like all the extra weight i had been carrying around for the last  months was instantly lifted off. i felt like i was lying on a cloud. the hospital had this pina colada slushy... it was amazing. i think i had a gallon of it! it was creamy and the perfect amount of syrup. i was able to sleep some that afternoon. then slowly visitors started to stop in and hang out until "go time". i was talking with andrea, kailey, and lindsie telling them i was feeling lots of pressure. they all suggested i get checked. i was afraid of being checked.... to start pushing and fee EVERYTHING again. i was scared of having to push for FOREVER again. i didn't want to be checked. so i waited until the pressure was almost too much to handle. the nurse came in at 5:20 and i was a ten. she got the Dr, the nurse for the baby, and i think after pushing through 3 contractions he was here. we were so surprised at the amount of hair he had. nate, ej, and i were all pretty much bald. ej had some hair that fell out soon after she was born but not very much. he looked SO, SO, SOOOO much like ej right after she was born. as i look at pictures if his birth i see flashes of pictures of her and it is crazy the resemblance. the delivery room was huge which was nice for all the visitors. almost immediately after they brought me food and a yummy fruit drink they call 'the riverton mai tai '. {see, pina coladas during labor and mai tais' after.... THAT is why people have more than one baby :) }. within about an hour after delivering i was moved to recovery/ mom and baby floor. with ej, because of the meds i was on i had to stay in labor and delivery, on bed rest, for 24 hours afterwards..... it was horrible! the nurses i had were so amazing!  i LOVED the hospital. about 20 mins after i delivered Rowen was taken to nursery for observation. he was making cooing noises as he took breaths~ which is the cutest noise.... ej did it too. however, it can be a sign that they aren't getting enough oxygen. just about every new nurse we had took he for observation because they were scared of the noises. the same exact thing happened with emersyn. what can i say, my kids are just noisy and like to talk to everyone around them :) on day two Rowen had his hearing test and failed it on his left ear. the audiologist came in and talked to me and said they'd test it again the following day. sometimes the varnix {the white stuff they are covered in when they come out} can get stuck in there. of course i started worrying immediately. i was so concerned and had all these thoughts about what we'd have to do if he couldn't hear out of that ear. however, the next day he passed it!!! i was so relieved.
this labor and hospital stay was so much better {and much shorter ~ thank heavens} then the first time around! after i had ej i was excited to be pregnant again but scared for the delivery. after the last nine/ten months.... i never want to be pregnant again but i could do the delivery again :). funny how things change. i never knew a little boy could possibly be so sweet. he is the sweetest little thing and completely melts my heart! i really wanted another girl when i was first pregnant but after having him, i could NOT imagine anyone else cradled in my arms. he is so perfect!
