this little guy was a CHAMP for the surgery. rowen pretty much has had an ongoing ear infection since the end of may. the last two weeks had been the worst. he finished a round of antibiotics on a monday then the symptoms started up on friday. day 1= grouchy. day 2= fatigued, tired. day 3= fever hits. so that following monday i had taken him in to the Dr and {of course} he had a raging ear infection and they were bulging. they gave him an shot of augmentin and we had to come in the following day for another shot. {mind you, his pediatrician is still in South Jordan}. we saw the ENT specialist on friday and she recommended he get tubes ASAP as his ears hadn't responded well to the round of antibiotics he had had on monday and tuesday. so she suggested the following tuesday. that week was BY FAR one of the craziest weeks to date. there was SO MUCH already going on and i was covering for the other hygienist at work so there was no way of having her cover for me as she was out of town. i didn't have a sitter all week so i was having grammy suzy come down from idaho (LIFE SAVER) to watch kiddos while i worked. we were having sod delivered, i had a RS BBQ i was in charge of..... SO MUCH CRAZINESS. but the tubes were something that couldn't wait.
i was so nervous to have him put under but SOOOO READY to have him out of the pain from the ear infections and the constant whining from not feeling good!
he was such a champ. he couldn't eat/drink the morning before, which i was scared that he was going to freak out but he did great!
"what am i wearing?"
trying to entertain him before the Dr got there.....
they came and grabbed him from me (we had the sweetest nurse) and my mind went crazy! thinking about what he must be thinking and how confused he probably was and how confused he was going to be when he woke up, and the pain he would be in- AHH, the life of a mom! the dr came out and said it was finished and that we would probably hear him down the hall before we saw him. about 2 mins later i heard the worst, most sad cry ever! rowen is not a crier. he whines but i have heard a full on cry from him probably 5 times. i almost didn't think it was him because the cry was so unlike anything i had heard from him... but it definitely had his little tone to it! they handed him to me and my heart was breaking for him!!!!!! i had a bottle ready to feed him.... but the burps hurt him SO bad because of the pressure change on the ears.... and he had A LOT of burps from the anesthesia :(
he finished most his bottled and then he lost it and threw up ALL OVER! it was horrible. we had to stay for a little bit but i knew once we got home he'd be much better. i did have to stop at the grocery store to get some tylenol. he totally threw up while we were in there.... i knew he would. i wanted to have nate run for us but i didn't want to pull him from work where he was already starting the day late being at the hospital.... i should have had him help! those hours at work probably weren't a big deal and i needed help. again, trying to be super mom! he did SO GREAT and even slept through the night the first night home (they said that was usually a looong night of no sleep). then he had grammy here to help love him while i worked.

Poor little guy. :( But he did look so cute in his hospital gown! You know Ruby has never had an ear infection....I hope this new baby doesn't get a ton of them just because I was so lucky with Ruby
that is so miserable! I hope he's doing better. Andrew had to have 5 sets of tubes when he was little. I am hoping and praying that our kids don't get his ears!
